Battery Scrap Buying and Responsible Handling

Batteries are not all the same. Accepted types, collection options and handling procedures depend on battery chemistry and local regulations, so please speak to us before you move or transport any batteries.

Why battery type matters

Lead-acid, lithium-ion, nickel-based and other batteries contain different materials and present different risks. They must not be treated as interchangeable. We do not promise to buy every battery type, and some may be declined or referred elsewhere.

What to tell us

  • The battery type and chemistry, from the label (for example lead-acid or lithium-ion).
  • Number of batteries, sizes and approximate weight.
  • Where they came from: vehicles, UPS systems, solar installations, tools.
  • Their condition: intact, damaged, leaking, swollen or corroded.
  • Photographs of the batteries and their labels.

Safety warnings

Stop and call for advice if a battery is damaged, leaking, swollen, hot or smells unusual. Damaged lithium-ion batteries can overheat or catch fire. Lead-acid batteries can leak corrosive acid.
  • Store batteries upright in a cool, dry, ventilated place away from flammables.
  • Do not stack heavily or puncture, crush or short-circuit batteries.
  • Tape exposed terminals where advised and keep different chemistries apart.
  • Wear gloves and eye protection when handling lead-acid batteries.

Before arranging transport

Please identify the battery type and contact us first. Transport rules for batteries differ by chemistry and condition, and moving them without checking can create safety and legal problems.
